Is there a better way to get away from it all than spending some time at a luxury spa resort? Here are a few of our favourite wellbeing retreats and best spas from across the globe, and the reasons why we love them…
Jumeirah Zabeel Saray – Talise Ottoman Spa, Dubai
We think this is the most amazing Spa in Dubai. The largest in the Middle East, it has over 40 treatment rooms, some of which offer lovely views over the sea and marina. You’re treated like royalty from the moment you enter, with the ornate interior design adding to the feeling of opulence. The centrepiece is a spectacular Turkish Hammam (bath, to you and me), built from marble and ornately decorated with dark woods, mosaics and murals in traditional Ottoman style. After an indulgent treatment, explore the quirkier facilities, like the Adventure Showers, or Snow Room (where it actually snows on you, perfect to cool off post-steam-treatment – we challenge you to find a more refreshing experience!). Or try the most over-the-top luxurious treatment on the menu – a 24 carat gold mask unique to Talise Ottoman Spa, followed by a champagne and caviar lunch (not forgetting the oh-so-glam Margy’s Monte Carlo gift bag you’ll receive on departure)…
The BodyHoliday LeSPORT Wellness Centre, St Lucia
Easily the best spa in the Caribbean, and often the main appeal of a BodyHoliday stay. You can opt to take part in a treatment journey, for a full two or three days of complimentary treatments that focus on a particular aim (e.g. Sleep Restoration – which really works, by the way!). Included in the price of a stay is a free daily spa treatment – which you’d be mad not to take up. With its friendly, sociable atmosphere, BodyHoliday is popular with solo travellers and groups, as well as couples. Our favourite treatment is the Aloe Vera Wrap – designed to trim, tone and tighten – and so deeply moisturising your skin glows for weeks afterwards!
The Sarojin Resort, Thailand
For a truly excellent Far Eastern spa experience, we can think of no better place than the boutique Sarojin Resort. Where better to sample a Thai massage than in the treetops, with the gentle sound of the Andaman Sea in the background? Local herbs, flowers & fruits are used in the creation of all the treatments following traditional recipes developed by Thai Monks (authentic!). Whilst you’re being pampered under the canopy of mangroves you can truly escape from it all – and don’t forget to try the outdoor tree showers and flower filled baths. For the ultimate castaway experience, opt to have your treatment on the white sandy beach….. hard to imagine a more relaxing scene….
U Spa at Constance Le Prince Maurice, Mauritius
In Mauritius, you’re in for a treat if you opt to stay at the 5* Constance Le Prince Maurice. As soon as you arrive, opt for the Jet Lag Massage and begin your holiday feeling refreshed. The spa treatment menu is endless, and it’s all set in lush tropical gardens near to a beautiful white sandy beach…. in other words – total bliss! Treatments are freshly prepared on-site from flowers, fruit & plant extracts from around the Indian Ocean. Who knew coconuts were so good for exfoliation? Podiatrist to the stars, Brice Nicham has devised treatments to soothe hands and feet that combine medical chiropody with luxurious products for the ultimate manicure and pedicure experiences – ensuring your toes are beach-ready for the rest of the stay.
Couples Swept Away, Jamaica
Set on the edge of a 7 mile long sandy beach, the Couples Swept Away has one of the best spas in Jamaica, particularly for honeymooners. Restricted to couples 18 and over, there’s a romantic, tranquil atmosphere (as you would expect from an adults-only resort). There’s a 10 acre sports facility next door (access to which is included in the price). After a long workout (or a long massage…), you can have your hair professionally styled before dinner. Finish the day with a relaxing movie night on the beach – no better place to unwind and drift off with the latest flick!
