For anyone who has been to Sri Lanka before they will tell you the usual delightful highlights – the stunning beaches, the fascinating culture, diverse wildlife and warm ultra friendly locals – however one negative they might also mention is the island’s limited and archaic road infrastructure, particularly those who stayed in the popular southern beach resorts such as Beruwala, Bentota, Galle and Koggala where after a long international flight a road transfer could take anywhere between 4-6 hours.

Well thankfully all that has now changed.

The Sri Lankan government recognised this as a hinderence to their tourism economy and thus invested in a major highway (simply known as ‘Southern Expressway’) which was completed in 2013 and runs 78 miles from the capital city of Colombo down to Matara at the southern tip of the island and allows exit points for all the major tourist beach resorts. As a result of this transfer times have on average been over halved meaning you can now reach prestigious resorts such as The Fortress Resort & Spa in Koggala, Jetwing Lighthouse in Galle and Vivanta by Taj Bentota  in only 2 hours.

Thanks to its toll charging (which your driver will pay) the highway stays eerily (but conveniently) deserted guaranteeing an express arrival to your chosen hotel. Please note that unlike many of our competitors all our transfers to as Beruwala, Bentota, Galle and Koggala include this highway service meaning rather than spending an extra 2 hours sat in a car you can instead spend that time on the beach or around the pool.
